Hi ,
We have recently migrated your email address to our website, this is to prepare for a migration of our central records for future automation projects within our space.
Earlier in 2019 we moved from Wellington Street to a room at Pioneer State High School, this was unavoidable as the landlord found a commercial tenant for the entire office of which we occupied the rear space. Unfortunately, this meant we had to move. The new facility is much larger and well laid out.
This Saturday the 18th of May (Election Day) we are holding our first BBQ at Bunnings Paget; we hope to see you drop in on us. Because there are not enough available volunteers to also open the space that day so we have had to cancel this meetup. We will however run a meetup the following weekend.
Meetups are currently running Saturdays between 1pm and 4pm, anytime drop in.
We do have a membership fee ($15 per month) that grants you additional rights like access to tools and equipment (subject to fair use and induction policies), voting rights (Our AGM is in September). This also helps pay for the associations costs like room leasing fees, public liability insurance and running costs.
During April we ran a promotion to increase membership several people managed to register during this time period and doubled their membership duration and received a complimentary April issue DIYODE magazine, thank you all for your ongoing support.
In February we conducted our first BBQ outside Jaycar, this was a successful venture.
We still encourage individual projects, bring in your ideas/projects work on them, pick our brains, we love to share ideas.
We also have some group projects, the main one currently is a full-sized vending machine that we are restoring. We also have projects to build a CNC router table (with 2.2kw Spindle motor), restore some 3D printers to working specification.
Did you know that Makerspaces Mackay, Inc is a not for profit incorporated association, it is run entirely from the dedicated effort of its unpaid volunteer committee, with the support of some very wonderful members. We do this because we love helping the community grow and to share so many fantastic stories of the amazing projects members have completed.
Did you know we have benefited from grants and supports like the QLD Hackerspaces grant, Mackay Regional Council grant and Element 14. We have also benefited from the generosity of donations from both members and the wider Mackay community. A very huge thank you to everyone that made this possible.
Some of the tools and equipment available in the space includes:
CNC Laser cutter (Sorry it can’t cut steel, but it can cut 15mm acrylic, 10mm timbers etc),
5 Axis CNC small job mill (can cut 4140 steel and below),
reflow station, soldering equipment,
training space with large screen TV,
full toolkit, drill press,
small lathe.
Lots always happening, please drop in on us sometime… we love visitors….
